Ms. April – Raymon Bessix (Initially Diagnosed at 45, 2009)

In 2009, after being diagnosed, I promised myself I would learn as much as I could about TNBC. I wanted to help others by providing educational and emotional support and whatever else was needed to get through the process. I accepted being a warrior; I went into battle and took no prisoners. Married, mom of two, grandma of six, and two great-granddaughters. I worked as an HR Information Systems Specialist until my health issues forced me to retire early. My second journey with TNBC proved to be more daunting. My family support was not as strong as before, but I did have my husband's support. Everyone else kept saying, 'You've been through this before, so you've got this." This time that really bugged me. I felt abandoned and misunderstood. It was through H4TG that once again I found comfort, support, and understanding. My advice for those newly diagnosed: take things one day at a time, live every moment to the fullest, and don’t sweat the small stuff.
