August is lovingly sponsored by Ehab Khalil

As we continue with our reflection on The Heart of the Matter, we invite you to explore the unique journey of our calendar ambassadors and learn more about what it truly means to be here for the girls. Our mission is grounded in compassionate support, emotional well-being, and the power of community. Together, we face breast cancer with strength, hope, and heart.

Ms. August, Raquel McMillan (diagnosed at 47 in 2024): It's not enough to survive cancer, you have to live

I am 1 in 8. I have never been a numbers person, but each day since my diagnosis I have thought about that statistic and the impact it has on the world around me.

I was diagnosed with Stage II IDC breast cancer on December 23, 2024. Prior to my diagnosis, my touch with breast cancer was in a support role—never considering the metric until I became part of the count.

While volunteering at an event for women's health in Hampton, I connected with H4TG. I instantly felt a sisterhood when speaking to the staff. I never imagined that a few short months later I would be reaching out to become a member. I am so thankful thatI did. H4TG has been so important to me. The community of volunteers, resources and support I have received as a newly diagnosed warrior has been a key part of my journey. Building lasting relationships with those who have walked this journey before me and alongside me is a gift I treasure. Their real and raw advice about the pearls and pitfalls offer such a refreshing and resilient lens to what my journey has become or will be. Every connection I make reminds me that life doesn’t end with a cancer diagnosis. It evolves; it connects; it restores faith, hope, and love. It's not enough to survive cancer, you have to live.
