Jessica Renee' – Ms. August | Diagnosed at 35 (2022)
Hello! You can call me Jess! I am a proud boy mom, bonus mom, and soulmate to an amazing man. As an Apprentice Craft Instructor for The Apprentice School at Newport News Shipbuilding, I enjoy teaching and mentoring apprentices. On March 14, 2022, I felt a small lump. However, I wasn't concerned since I am young, in good health, and felt no pain. I didn't know that my life would soon change drastically. My gynecologist examined me, and I was assured NOT to be concerned. He shared that breast lumps are common and usually are benign that typically go away over time. So, I didn’t worry as he was unconcerned, and I trusted him. Unfortunately, on June 6, 2022, I was diagnosed with Stage 3B Triple-Negative Invasive Ductal Breast Cancer that had spread to my lymph nodes. I was in complete shock and life felt surreal. Not knowing much about the types of breast cancer. I hoped that "triple-negative" meant I hit the breast cancer jackpot. WOW, I was wrong! The cancer was aggressive, and treatment was needed immediately. My faith, the support of my amazing family, friends, and H4TG helped me fight this battle. It’s been a long, tough journey of chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation. However, I have remained positive and strong. Although extremely hard, we MUST stay positive and strong to push through! Invest in yourself by self-examining, routine check-ups, and seeking medical answers when your body just doesn’t feel right.
MY WORD: I AM PURPOSEFUL.
