Angela Dodson – Ms. November| Diagnosed at 45 (2020)
There is comradery when individuals share the words “you have cancer.” H4TG provided support and encouragement in my darkest days as I was diagnosed during a pandemic. Chemo, radiation, appointments, and scans were spent alone. It’s important to know that breast cancer does not always appear as a lump and any change should be examined. I saw an indent, a line in my breast as if my bra fit too tight. Surgery revealed numerous positive lymph nodes. I awoke to drains in my breast and an aggressive treatment plan. I did not recognize the bald person staring back at me from the mirror. On the day of diagnosis your old life ends and a new one begins. You begin to find purpose and meaning with a sense of gratitude for each day. Imagine how spectacular this world could be if everyone set aside differences and found new purpose and meaning with gratitude just to have one more day? Most cancer survivors do not want money or material things, they just want one more day. During cancer, I found hope, strength, resilience, kindness, and gratefulness. I especially found a meaningful and personal relationship with Christ. I was never alone during those days at chemo, radiation, appointments, and scans, HE never left me. Don’t let cancer have you looking at loss, instead focus on what can be found.
MY WORD: I AM FAITHFUL
