Member Stories: Lisa Marshall

March 1, 2026

March is lovingly sponsored by Cathy McQuade

As we continue with our reflection on The Heart of the Matter, we invite you to explore the unique journey of our calendar ambassadors and learn more about what it truly means to be here for the girls. Our mission is grounded in compassionate support, emotional well-being, and the power of community. Together, we face breast cancer with strength, hope, and heart.

Ms. March, Lisa Marshall (diagnosed at 46 in 2003): Giving back has given me purpose

The words, "It's not what we'd hoped for," still echo in my mind. Time stood still, yet life didn't pause to let me catch my breath. I was a mother to a nine-year-old daughter, a military spouse uprooted by frequent moves, and a full-time teacher and consultant. Now, I had to add "breast cancer patient" to the list.

I learned to ask for help. My family, despite the physical distance, offered emotional support. My daughter, with her youthful resilience, reminded me to find joy in little things. I faced this journey with positivity because life is too precious to be lived in fear and despair.

I wanted to be a source of hope, inspiration, and power for others. H4TG has given me that opportunity for the last 10 years. As a facilitator, I create safe spaces where women can share their fears and triumphs and experience the healing power of connection. As a staff member, I amplify our impact and help the organization thrive.

And now, as a 20-year thriver, I see how hope and encouragement can transform fear into strength, and I'm honored to share that gift. Giving back has given me purpose—it's my "heart of the matter."
