Our mission is grounded in compassionate support, emotional well-being, and the power of community. Together, we face breast cancer with strength, hope, and heart.

Ms. May, Jocelyn Reese (diagnosed at 44 in 2021): Check those lemons ladies!

May 2021: I completed my Master's Degree in Nursing, preparing to take my Nurse Practitioner Board Exam, when my mom called about an upcoming breast biopsy after noticing skin changes. I was with her when she received her re-diagnosis, this time with Stage IV ER/PR+ HER2— breast cancer.

In July, after an annual mammogram, I received a call for follow-up imaging. With dense fibrocystic breasts and a previously normal biopsy when I was 19, I wasn't concerned. After my mom's diagnosis, what would be the chances that I also had cancer? My repeat mammogram and ultrasound revealed a very small mass. I still wasn’t concerned until the radiologist performing my biopsy said that “it felt” malignant. Three days later, I was diagnosed with ER/PR+ HER2— breast cancer, just like my mom, but with tubulolobular carcinoma.

Humor and my faith in God helped me through many rough moments. With a strong family history of cancer, all of my genetic testing came back normal. Despite receiving the diagnosis, I did pass my boards. My position as a family nurse practitioner gives me the platform to discuss the importance of preventative care. My diagnosis has helped me to be a more compassionate medical provider. My faith reminds me that God is with us during any storm. Check those lemons, ladies!
