Ms. November – Janet Blankenship (Diagnosed at 40, 2017)

A lump in my right armpit led to my first cancer diagnosis in 2017. After two lumpectomies and cancer in several of the lymph nodes, radiation seemed like the last step. One year later, I was crushed to hear that a "second primary" was found in my left breast. I opted for a bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction and my oncologist recommended H4TG. H4TG saved me and gave me a sounding board of women who understood. The 2018 retreat gave me my life back. On January 6, 2023, I was diagnosed as metastatic. H4TG has empowered me to know that I matter and in charge of my body. I love sharing my story with others and hope my experiences can help make their journey easier and more informed. But sometimes, it isn't about advice; it is just being a sister by their side in "the best group no one wants to be a part of." Before cancer, I let little things consume me. Now, I care less about little things and make sure everyone I love knows it. My husband, daughters, sister, friends, and family are all my cheerleaders. They provide rainbows if I need them but will sit with me in the rain on those days when positivity is just not what I need. Any cancer diagnosis, but especially a metastatic one, re-centers your focus on how important love is.
