Here for the Girls (H4TG) is thrilled to announce it is the 2022 recipient of the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Social Work Office of Field Education Outstanding Community Partner Award for providing exceptional field education opportunities for social work students.
The VCU School of Social Work Office of Field Education partnered with H4TG in 2018. H4TG offers social-emotional support through multiple services designed to enhance its members' lives throughout their breast cancer journey. The social work team, led by Melissa Weaver (LCSW), along with VCU masters-level student interns deliver services through a Transitional Phases of Support Model (TPSM) that helps identify areas of specific need as they relate to physical, emotional, and/or social factors.
“The training you provide to clinicians, education to others on how to support one another and show up, support groups, and remembrance events are exceptional,” said Assistant Director of Field Education Cameron Carter. “We truly appreciate our partnership and all that Here for the Girls does for the community.”
H4TG’s member services are designed to meet the unique needs of individuals facing a specific breast cancer journey. In-depth services are focused on, but not limited to, grief and trauma, coping strategies, resources, caregivers, empowerment, and post traumatic growth.
“We are so honored to be the beneficiary of this year’s Outstanding Community Partner Award,” said H4TG Executive Director Chris Schwab. “Through this incredible partnership, social work students gain vital experience delivering Important services. In turn, we can expand and enhance our social-emotional support services for young breast cancer survivors.”
